Paithani sarees are unique because they are entirely handwoven. The rich amalgamation of silk and zari leads to the most mind-blowing patterns ever seen on a saree. The sarees heavily feature traditional and culturally significant motifs. The most well-known designs feature the Muniya (parrot), Akruti (squarish almond-shaped blossoms), Mor (peacock), Lotus, musical instruments such as the tabla, shehnai, and sambal, Koyari (mango), and most significantly the border designs of Narali (coconut) and Pankha (fan-shaped).
One of the charming features of a saree is the intricate zari styles featured on the borders of a Paithani saree. These lovely styles signify the border and pallu. The sarees colorings are nearly as particular as the patterns they show. Colors like Aboli (pinkish-peach), Firozi (green and pastel pink), Orphankhi (greenish-blue), Mirani (black and scarlet), Pophali (yellow), and Vangi are a few examples of the coloration are heavily features on these mesmerizing sarees.
There are also many types of Paithani sarees that you can peruse. Bangdi Mor Paithani saree is especially popular for its unique peacock motifs. It is said that it is the most difficult to weave a Paithani saree. Showcasing coins or peas, the Ekdhoti weave Paithani saree is popular with celebrities.
Another special feature of paithani saree is that they may be identical on both sides of saree. The saree can shine and glow from both sides because it bears the identical beautiful designs. These specific designs make Paithani saree as the Queen of silk sarees.
When buying in person, you can feel the texture of the saree. You can look at both sides of the saree and see whether they are identical since that is the true mark of an original Paithani saree. But those options are not available when buying the saree online, for obvious reasons. Instead, you can be on the lookout for certain other things. Make sure to research the seller from whom you are buying. Read the product reviews and feedback carefully. Check if the product has too many bad reviews. Also, be wary of “too good to be true” prices. Since Paithani sarees are entirely handwoven, making them is time and labor-intensive. That is reflected in the price of the saree. So, don’t buy a Paithani saree just because the price is too low. They are supposed to be expensive.
Paithani sarees are a gift for us from our ancestors. The medieval patterns and designs are out of this world. But recently, people have also started to prefer modern designs on Paithani sarees. Modern designs like geometric patterns, contemporary designs and amalgamation of modern and medieval designs have grown in popularity lately. These designs are perfect for today's youth looking for links to feel more connected to their ancient roots. These modern designs help bridge that gap
A Paithani saree is an expensive purchase, no doubt about it. But there are still variations in the price. Complex and complicated patterns which take weeks and months to be handwoven are more expensive. This is because a lot of time and effort goes into making the saree. More thread work and more design mean more money. So, buy a Paithani saree wisely.
Paithani sarees are an important symbol of the culture of Indian sarees. Support the weaves and handicraft industry of India by focusing on more handwoven products instead of mass-produced machine-made products.
